Wpf localization tool
I am using the culture string as part of the Assembly name and or the actual ResourceDictionary. From there is just a question of loading the separate culture Assemblies and extracting the contained ResourceDictionary and replacing the current Main Assemblies ResourceDictionary. Thus forcing all resourced referencing controls to update with the new resource data. The default value of all noncompilable resources is Localizable set to true.
After building the application, the first step in localizing it is parsing the localizable resources out of the satellite assembly. Note that LocBaml is only a sample tool meant to help you get started in building a localization tool that fits into your localization process. CSV" file. Use your favorite CSV editor that supports Unicode to edit this file. Filter out all entries with a localization category of "None".
You should see the following entries:. The last step of localization involves creating the newly localized satellite assembly. This can be accomplished with the following LocBaml command:.
On German Windows, if this resources. If you do not have a German version of Windows to test this, set the culture to whatever culture of Windows you are using for example, en-US , and replace the original resources DLL. NET automatically chooses which satellite resources assembly to load based on the application's Thread.
This defaults to the culture of your Windows OS. For example, if you specify:. The following graphics show an English and Arabic Homepage. For the complete sample that produces these graphics see Globalization Homepage Sample. This mock up of the Microsoft Saudi Arabia web site illustrates the globalization features provided for RightToLeft languages. Languages such as Hebrew and Arabic have a right-to-left reading order so the layout of UI must often be laid out quite differently than it would be in left-to-right languages such as English.
Localizing from a left-to-right language to a right-to-left language or vice versa can be quite challenging. WPF has been designed to make such localizations much easier. Notice the FlowDirection property on Page. Changing this property to RightToLeft will change the FlowDirection of the Page and its children elements so that the layout of this UI is flipped to become right-to-left as an Arabic user would expect. One can override the inheritance behavior by specifying an explicit FlowDirection on any element.
Observe that even the background gradient brushes are flipped correctly when the root FlowDirection is changed:. Take a look through Homepage. Avoid using fixed dimensions to prevent clipping localized text that may be longer than the source text. WPF panels and controls will automatically resize based on the content that they contain.
There are many cases where content may be ambiguous and difficult to translate. The developer or designer has the ability to provide extra context and comments to localizers through localization comments. For example the Localization. Comments below clarifies the usage of the character ' '. Often the developer or localization manager needs control of what localizers can read and modify. For example, you might not want the localizer to translate the name of your company or legal wording.
You can use tools like TxTranslation dev. No command line needed. Christian Moser Christian Moser. Marny Jeckel Marny Jeckel 11 2 2 bronze badges. Could you list the steps one by one? Multibinding strings from resx file Member Apr Hi, I see how you use the stringformat, however I cannot figure out how I could extract the elements from the resource file used. UWP quicoli Nov Great work! Does your solution works with UWP?
Satellite assemblies marianoborghi 7-Sep Hi Is there any way to avoid the generation of satellite assemblies for non default languages? It will be great if they can be read from inside the app assembly. Re: Satellite assemblies Grant Frisken Nov Grant Frisken. I don't think that this is possible - although there are tools available that allow you to combine multiple assemblies into a single package. I'm not sure that these will work with satellite assemblies however Infralution - we provide.
Can I sign the Infralution. Like the subject mentioned, I want to sign the Infralution. I would like to ask if I have permission to do that? Thanks for your contribution again. Re: Can I sign the Infralution. Yes that is no problem. The code uses the CPOL license so you can recompile and sign with your own key if you wish Infralution - we provide. Is it possible to change the Key of a resx-link dynamically at runtime and dependent on a ViewModel-Property?
I tried to achieve my goal by using styles with different versions of my resx-link see below , but there are two issues: - ResxName has to be set in each Resx-Tag even though there is a DefaultResxName set in the UserControl Elements in a Style are no part of the Visual Tree.

Re: Tool for resx localization Grant Frisken Nov But Globalizer is a much better product, with better pricing and is designed to actually work with Resx Localization to allow you to preview your WPF controls and forms while you translate.
License Member Jul First off, kudos on the good work. Would it be possible for you to release the source code under a license compatible with GPLv3? The Rubberduck project is currently using code based on this project, but we recently discovered that the Code Project Open License is not GPL compatible.
We would prefer to not have to remove an reimplement this functionality. Re: License Grant Frisken Jul The only real restriction in the Code project license is that you can't just sell the work as is.
The code itself does not including any reference to the licensing conditions - the article is the only reference to the license. You can take this response as my authority to use it within your project under GPLv3.

If we are allowed to change the source code, I assume changing the namespace of the classes is one of those changes allowed? Re: can I change the namespace of the classes in the source code? Yes you can change the namespace. The only ramification is that if you change the assembly name or namespace then you will not be able to use our Globalizer tool www.
If you aren't using Globalizer then this wouldn't be an issue. Binding to resource name saved in string? Re: Binding to resource name saved in string? You don't need the Resx Extension to do this. You can just use a standard Binding and in your Test property use the Resource Manager to get the resource with the given key from the resources. Hi, sorry to Necro this but I've the same issue and this is the best approach I've found but still won't solve my problem.
I know that the standard solution should be to Bind to the Test property but in my case I have a dynamically defined string that is a property of a datacontext variable and I'd like to use it as the key. It's then not possible with Resx? Could it be implemented?
